Heart to Heart
Mission Statement - The Heart to Heart program will reach out to newly diagnosed cancer
families and hospital-bound cancer families, offering support and understanding through compassionate conversation
from one parent to the other...heart to heart.
The Visits - KNK parents will make four to five short visits to the cancer unit each
week. A small gift basket of "comfort" items will be given to the parents of the patient. Items such as
lotions, candles and hand cream will be the primary focus of the basket with perhaps hospital parking passes and
cafeteria vouchers as well. The soul of Heart to Heart will be the gentle touch of a parent who has emotionally
survived their child's diagnosis, learned to live with the treatment and is now coping with life after cancer.
The short visits will simply offer a shoulder to lean on and compassionate reassurance that these parents will
also survive "life after diagnosis."
