Gifts for the Kids
In addition to Kids 'n Kamp programs and services, many gifts are
presented to the children of KNK to assist with costs related to
childhood cancer and its toll on the family. The following are just
a few examples of these gifts provided by Kids 'n Kamp.
| KNK sent a Fredericktown family to Key Largo, Florida to swim with the dolphins, then on to Orlando to visit
Disney World. Eight-year-old Kathryn is not winning her battle with cancer and swimming with the dolphins was
something she dreamed about doing. KNK provided the funds ($2,100 plus airfare) for this magical trip, knowing
that time was against us. Kathryn became too ill to fully enjoy the swim and had to return home with Mom
instead of going on to Disney with her sisters and Dad. (Kathryn passed away on Sept. 28, 2000) |
| A total of $780 was spent on hair replacement procedures for three KNK
children. Jordon, Jillian and Lindsey will never have a full head of hair due to their cancer treatments. As
teens, this procedure has changed their self-image and allowed them to find a secure place among their peers. |
| A birthday cake and several small gifts were purchased for Paulina, a 3-year-old sibling who has celebrated
all of her birthdays in the waiting rooms of Columbus Childrens Hospital. Her sister Tabby is a cancer patient
who was diagnosed in 1995 with Leukemia. Tabby's battle with cancer has been a long one, and sadly, her future
is tenuous at best. (Tabby passed away on April 15, 2000) |
| $150 was sent to 16-year-old Shannon who suffered from "graft vs. host" disease after a bone marrow
transplant when she relapsed from Leukemia. She is hospitalized often due to weakness in her lungs and heart.
She is facing transplants for both these organs. KNK is sending her shopping with her Mom, which is something
Shannon loves to do. |
| A total of $510 was sent to the Evergreen Monument Company to pay for the headstone of a little boy named
Michael who died in January 2000. |
| $171.77 was sent to the Westside Garage to pay for repairs on Michael's family car. The 4-year-old Leukemia
patient was receiving chemotherapy in Columbus Childrens Hospital and Mom's car was unable to make it from
Lancaster to visit. KNK fixed the car for her. |
| $190.33 was paid to Kim's Wigs on Sawmill Road for 18-year-old Meghan who has a brain tumor. Meghan lives in
Powell with her mother. |
| $50 was paid for a family membership to the Columbus Zoo. Matthew was too ill to attend the KNK family
picnic, so this family of four was given the opportunity to visit the Zoo when Matthew became well enough.
(Matthew died of a brain tumor in February of 2000.) |
| $500 was paid to Wolohan Lumber Company for drywall, nails and insulation to warm Crystal's home. Crystal
lives in Murray City, Ohio. She is a 13-year-old girl suffering from Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. She receives
chemotherapy from Columbus Childrens Hospital. |
